Analysis of Film Website - Maleficent

Source: Disney's Maleficent Official Website

The colour scheme of the website uses very dark colours such as black, dark green and dark blue which matches with the main character since she wears dark colours for her costume and her personality can also be demonstrated through the colours used. The layout is divided up into boxes which link to either the trailer, images or to where they can get tickets to see the movie. At the top of the website, they have a tab-bar which has links to the other pages within the website and it's all related to the movie, Maleficent.

By using the 'Disney' logo at the top of the website, above the movie name which states that it is an official movie from Disney productions. Stating the actress of the main character also is a way of advertising the movie since the actress (Angelina Jolie) is well-known in the film industry. The mise-en-scene of the main actress can demonstrate the genre since she has horns which can signify that it is fiction and it can be seen from another characters point of view in the children story of 'Sleeping Beauty'. The trailer on the loop can also state that the genre is fiction since it shows creatures that have the exterior of trees and they can move as well as talk. It also shows fairies flying which is another suggestion to the audience that it's fiction because in reality, fairies don't exist.

It offers information about the movie, characters, gallery, videos, downloads, music and games. This is all used to entice the audience so that they're persuaded to go and watch the movie in the cinema since they have access to the information of the movie and they can also view snippets such as images and clips of the movie so that they can have a taster of what the movie contains and to see whether they'd like it or not. By giving more background information of the characters, they might find something that they can relate to and think that the character may be fictional but they're relate-able with some facts.

Analysis of "The Amazing Spiderman 2" Trailer

The names of the director, producers or star names aren't given in the trailer which could be due to the fact that it could ruin the tension that was being built up throughout the trailer. Also, none the names are famous enough to be credited so it wouldn't make such a difference in the trailer of the movie whether if the names were displayed or not.
The person delivering the voice over at the beginning was the main character. It's very serious and he dialect matches with the scenes shown within the trailer which creates tension but as the movie trailer goes on, the voice over switches to another character which was his aunt. This could be used to add tension to the trailer due to the dialect that was selected to be added. The voice over switchers from different characters shown in the trailer which could hint to the audience that those are the important or main cast involved in the film and can also conspire a reason to why the main character will be in danger or that the audience will be embarking on a new action-packed adventure with him.
The music at the beginning starts from mute then drums start to play and it builds, creating a crescendo which is what is used to help build up the tension in the trailer. They did this so it demonstrates how dramatic the film is which is what they want the audience to get a taste of as well as the action.
The mise-en-scene tells the audience that it is an action film due to the use of people firing guns and cars being toppled over as well as buildings are being destroyed. It can also tell us that it's set in modern times or the future since they include technology that is used today as well as advanced technology which may exist in the future. The fashion-style of the characters is still the same or similar to the modern-day fashion of today. The mise-en-scene also implies that the film is fictional since the main character is a superhero that has the superpower to create webs from his fingertips.
At the beginning of the trailer, they had a back-track zoom-out of the main character which means that they want the audience to focus on the logo on the back of his superhero costume which was a spider. This will signify to the audience, straight-away that it is the insignia of the superhero, Spiderman. It will also suggest that the film trailer is about the next upcoming Spiderman movie, no matter if they have seen the first movie or not.

My Personal Film Consumption

I go to the cinema around once to twice a month with my friends and family. The last 5 films I saw at the cinema was Maleficent, Frozen, Hunger Games: Catching Fire, Now You See Me and Despicable Me 2. I don't download films from online due to the fact that it takes up too much disc space and there's also the risky business of getting caught and being fined for illegally downloading films. The last DVD I bought from a store was Death Note and in the last year I've bought about 4 or more DVDs. The convergence devices that I use to watch films online are the Xbox, iPhone, iPad and iMac. I can also access films online via Netflix which has a range of different genres to choose from such as rom-com and horror. Over the past year, I haven't downloaded any films and I don't read any film magazines due to the fact that I'm not a film fanatic.
