‘What filmmaking techniques are used to make the trailer effective’

Trailer: If I stay

The mise-en-scene presented in the trailer was very effective in “If I stay”. The main characters were dressed in casual clothing which made them appear young thus stating that they are modern-day teenagers. The use of musical instruments and musical events they were present in, demonstrates that they have ambitions to become musicians since they have the talent with instruments for it which creates more of an effect in the trailer when applying to teenagers who have ambitions of wanting to become musicians themselves.

The use of camera shots used for the trailer can also assist with how effective the trailer can be. Such as when they did a mid-shot, 360 degree turn with the girl which focused on her reaction and emotions she was feeling toward the whole scenario she is going through. Also, I close up, group-mid shot of the teenage couple would demonstrate how much they love and cherished each other which could add to how effective the trailer is since it demonstrates that it’s a teenage romance and the film is aimed towards the audience of teenagers and young adults thus; it would have more of an affect on that particular audience since they’re around the same age as the couple and they would feel of wanting to be in a relationship like what the couple has.

The music used during the trailer seemed to be classical music which demonstrated at the beginning how calm and happy it all seemed but then the mood of the music changed even though it was still classical, it presented the feeling of being lost and heartbreaking.
