Photography Analysis for Film Poster

Photo 1
This photo has been optioned to be a potential shot that will be used for my film poster. The reason to this is due to the lighting of how it shines on half of his face while the other side is shadowed. The audience may be able to depict that even though he's a priest and is supposedly meant to be good; he has a dark side which is hidden underneath all that shining goodness. The picture itself looks very bold and stands out from the page; if editing was added to the picture, it may even look more secretly devious and mysterious. However, the only problem I have with this shot is the fact that he's not looking directly into the camera. Eye-contact from a film poster may be able to captivate the audience's attention more rather than him focusing his attention away from the camera.

This shot has also been optioned to possibly be used for my film poster since it's an extreme-close up of an head shot with the model focusing directly into the camera. By having the model establish eye-contact with the camera; it also will appear as if he is attempting to establish eye-contact with the audience thus, drawing their attention towards focusing on the film poster. The lighting used was front-lighting in order to illuminate his face and get rid of any dark shadows that may be visible. The facial expression the model has used seems very calm. However, it gives some hints that he could be hiding something which is what will allure the public to want to watch the film and find out what it is this guy may be up to.

This was the shot I've decided to use for my film poster. One of the reasons due to this decision is because of the lighting used. A bit of low-key lighting was used in order to illuminate his face but still creates shadows in some areas. The light reflection of his face can also be edited to look brighter which gave myself the idea of adding fire to symbolise the depths of hell which depicts the irony in the film poster that a priest whose meant to be a servant of God could actually be doing the opposite of God's expectations. The facial expression shows how he may look innocent since he is a priest but however others don't see beyond the outfit and the appearance of a priest so they believe he is completely an loyal servant of God.
